{year} Standardized Medicare Supplement Plan Comparison Chart

The chart below shows the benefits included in each of the standardized Medicare Supplement plans. Some plans may not be available in your area. Only applicants first eligible for Medicare before 2020 may purchase Plans C, F, and high deductible F. (✓ = 100% of benefit is paid)

1 — Plans F and G also have a high deductible option which require first paying a plan deductible of $2,950 before the plan begins to pay. Once the plan deductible is met, the plan pays 100% of covered services for the rest of the calendar year. High deductible plan G does not cover the Medicare Part B deductible. However, high deductible plans F and G count your payment of the Medicare Part B deductible toward meeting the plan deductible.

2 — Plans K and L pay 100% of covered services for the rest of the calendar year once you meet the out-of-pocket yearly limit.

3 — Plan N pays 100% of the Part B coinsurance, except for a co-payment of up to $20 for some office visits and up to a $50 co-payment for emergency room visits that do not result in an inpatient admission.

Frequently Asked Questions About The Medicare Supplement Comparison Chart

This chart compares all standardized Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan letters side by side — Plans A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, and N. Each column shows whether a plan covers a specific Medicare cost gap, so you can see exactly what you'd be responsible for under each plan.

Federal law requires every Medigap plan with the same letter to offer the exact same benefits, regardless of the insurance company selling it. Plan G from Aetna covers the same things as Plan G from Mutual of Omaha. The only differences between carriers are price, financial strength, and customer service.

Plans C and F were closed to new enrollees starting January 1, 2020 under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA). If you became eligible for Medicare before that date, you can still enroll in these plans. Everyone else should focus on the plans available to all beneficiaries — most commonly Plan G or Plan N.

A checkmark (✓) means the plan covers that benefit in full. A percentage (50% or 75%) means the plan covers that share and you pay the rest. “No” means the plan does not cover that benefit — you would pay the full cost out of pocket. A copay note (like “up to $20”) means partial coverage with a small cost-sharing amount.

It depends on your healthcare needs, budget, and how much financial risk you're comfortable with. Plan G is the most popular choice in {year} because it covers nearly everything except the Part B deductible ({cost:part_b_deductible}/year). Plan N offers lower premiums but includes small copays and doesn’t cover Part B excess charges. If you’re unsure, our free recommendation quiz can help narrow it down in about 2 minutes.

The Medicare Part B deductible is the amount you pay each year before Medicare starts covering outpatient services. In {year}, it’s {cost:part_b_deductible}. Plans C and F cover this deductible for you. Plans G and N do not — meaning you pay it once per year before your Medigap coverage kicks in. For most people, the premium savings of Plan G compared to Plan F more than offset this one annual cost.

If a doctor doesn’t accept Medicare assignment, they can charge up to 15% more than the Medicare-approved amount. This extra cost is called a Part B excess charge. Plans F and G cover these charges in full. Plan N and most other plans do not. In practice, the vast majority of doctors accept Medicare assignment, so excess charges are uncommon — but the protection can be valuable if you see specialists who don’t.

No. No Medigap plan covers prescription drugs. If you enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan, you’ll need a separate Medicare Part D prescription drug plan for drug coverage. This is different from Medicare Advantage, which often bundles drug coverage into the plan.

Yes. On smaller screens, the chart shows a filter bar at the top that lets you select which plan letters to compare. By default, it starts with the three most popular plans (G, N, and F) so the table fits your screen without scrolling. You can add or remove plans by tapping the filter chips.
