Medigap Out-of-Pocket Costs for 2026

Medicare Supplement insurance helps you pay for costs that Medicare Part A and Part B don’t pay, like copays, deductibles, and coinsurance. However, while Medicare Supplement plans do cover out-of-pocket expenses, you will still be responsible for some deductibles and premiums, depending on the plan you choose.

Here’s a look at what you can expect from Medicare Supplement costs this year, including Part A, Part B, and plan prices.

Part A costs

Medicare Part A is also known as hospital insurance. It covers care you receive in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, and some home health services — but it doesn’t cover all your costs. With Original Medicare, you’re responsible for things like your hospital deductible, copayments for hospital stays beyond 61 days, and coinsurance for skilled nursing facilities

What you will pay for Medicare Part A coverage includes your premium and deductible. In 2026, the monthly premium for most people is $0 (assuming you paid taxes for 10 years or more). The Part A deductible is $1,736.

There are, however, some supplemental plans, also known as Medigap, that will cover all or some of your  Part A deductible. These include:

  • Plans B, D, F (and the high-deductible Plan F, if available in your state), G, and N cover the Part A deductible.
  • Plan C (only available for people who were Medicare-eligible on or before January 1, 2020) covers the deductible.
  • Plans K and M cover 50% of the Part A deductible.
  • Plan L covers 75% of the deductible.

*Note: Plan A, a basic Medigap policy, doesn’t cover the Part A deductible.

Many of these plans also help with some Part A costs like coinsurance. You can refer to your plan documents or talk to your plan sponsor to find out what your specific plan covers.

Part B costs

Medicare Part B helps you pay for outpatient and doctor’s services. But if you only have Original Medicare, you could pay an annual deductible and 20% coinsurance, which can add up if you have a lot of care or need expensive services like outpatient surgery.

The Medicare Part B deductible for 2026 is $283, and the monthly premiums start at $202.90 a month — but may be higher, depending on your income. You’re responsible for monthly premiums even if you have a Medigap plan.

Unlike Part A coverage, Medigap rarely covers your Part B deductible. In fact, there are only three Medigap plans that do: C, F, and high-deductible F. But this coverage doesn’t include everyone. New rules by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) only allow these plans to cover the deductible if you were on one of these plans before January 1, 2020, or were eligible but not yet enrolled.

Medigap plan costs

The cost of a Medicare Supplement plan includes a monthly premium paid to your insurance carrier in addition to your Part B premium. Premiums for the plans generally range from $100 to $300 a month, and they vary depending on an array of factors, including:

  • The type (letter) of plan – Plans that offer more comprehensive coverage typically have a higher cost.
  • Your geography – Plans are based on insurance costs in your state and the demand for plans, so your costs will be higher if you live in states like Florida, New York, and California.
  • Your age – Your plan will be less expensive when you’re 65 than when you’re 80 because you have a higher risk of health issues as you age.
  • Your gender – Women tend to have fewer health issues as they age, so their plans are often lower.
  • Tobacco use – As with many insurance plans, nonsmokers tend to pay less than people who use tobacco products.

Medigap can help you avoid paying some of the out-of-pocket costs you have when you enroll in Medicare. As a refresher, the Part A deductible ($1,736 in 2026) is covered by most Medicare Supplement plans, but the Part B deductible ($283 in 2026) isn’t. Supplemental plans tend to have premiums between $100 and $300 a month.
